Pre-hospital Care

Pre-hospital care in emerging as a speciality in its own right and constantly practices are being refined in the light of new evidence.

The backbone of prehospital care is the DR ABC algorithm. When in a tough situation, a really simple and straightforward guide is absolutely essential to getting things right.

Hence, every year, we run a series of workshops on each element of the algorithm. And we will have blogs coming up which discuss the principle aspects.

However it is important to remember that in real life situations the things most likely to be encountered fall under the minor injuries and illnesses category. These are aches and pains, tummy troubles and bruises that slow down any expedition and can develop if not treated properly.

This is a document which acts as a guide to the essential competencies of a prehospital care pactitioner, it is just a checklist but fairly usefull none the less.

Written by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care aims to promote high standards of teaching and research in pre-hospital care and to set and maintain standards of clinical practice. Whether you are a student of medicine or an allied profession the Faculty is here to support you.
